Scope: A continuous challenge in the research field "viscous liquids and the glass transition" is the origin of the non-Arrhenius temperature dependence of the liquid relaxation time. It is not clear whether a universal explanation of this intriguing fact exists. Phenomenological models like the entropy, free volume, and elastic models, link the relaxation time activation energy to macroscopic observables; other models attempt first-principles approaches. - This informal workshop is meant to illuminate various models and viewpoints, and it will emphasize discussions of models and correlations between fragility and other observables.

Time and location: Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 9.00 to Friday, October 10, 2008, at 16.00; Carlsberg Academy, Gamle Carlsbergvej 15, DK-2500 Valby. - The Carlsberg Academy is the former honorary residence of Niels Bohr, now a conference venue owned by Carlsberg Brewery.

Getting there: The Carlsberg Academy is located 2.5 km from the city centre of Copenhagen, within walking distance of Valby and Enghave S-train stations. The city centre is a 13 minutes train ride from Copenhagen Airport connecting with many European and overseas destinations. (map)
